6/9/14 Pssst....There are actual spiderwebs in my mailbox!!! hint hint hint...

1)  Still no headaches?
Nope, still doing well.

2)  Is the investigator still active?
Uhhh.... kind of?  She still likes us....

3)  Eaten Mua wan yet?  I want some so very very very bad
Nope.

4)  How many lessons did you get to teach this week?
We taught 3 lessons on the street. 1 lesson because of English and 10 lessons with recent converts and LA's... we aren't doing too well....

5)  Are you still biking tons?
Yup!

6)  How is your spirit?
Tired!

7)  Are you still basically allergy free?
Pretty much! Except I had a small allergic reaction to pineapple... sadness.  That's not going to stop me.  I just have to remember not to drink water when I am eating my pineapple.

8)  How are the mosquitos?  Still eating you alive?
They think they are my best friends... I think my bike box has three cans of bug spray. haha!  I get paranoid!

**********************

Hello Mom, Regan, Family, Friends, Strangers.... etc...  How are you all doing? You know, being on a mission still makes me feel like I'm stuck in a bubble.... You don't hear anything about what's happening in the world... you just hope that everything is going okay...

Speaking about that.... Sister Pope and I came to a sad discovery this week... We have SPIDER WEBS in our mail box... it was a very depressing and gross find.... Anyways... yup.... *hint*hint*

But on a brighter note, we also saw something that completely blew our minds!  So, we were biking to the train station so we could go to Zone Training Meeting and the sky was looking a bit... grey.  The sky was full of black clouds, and we knew it was about time it was going to rain.  So, when we were almost at the train station, we were struck with confusion and awe when we saw a small area, about the size of a kitchen table, where it was pouring rain.  Like, it was only raining in that area! Everything else was dry!  We looked around for the source of the water, like maybe it was coming from a nearby building, but the water was coming from straight above.  It was a strange phenomenon....

Hmm... What else... So, I guess I can just start from the beginning of the week, just to give some order to things and to help me get my thoughts straight.

Monday, we relaxed, because we were dragging.  Oh, we also got lost in Carrefour.... Where we bought the greatest creation on the face of the earth! Okay, maybe not really. I just got a pack of those water coloring pictures that you can paint with cotton swabs.  They make me happy.  My pictures all have hamsters on it. :)

On Tuesday we went to ZTM and learned about how to help investigators progress to baptism.... so we are starting at step number one.... FIND INVESTIGATORS!  I mean, we have Albee, but we are still trying to find times to meet with her.  She's busy, and the time we did had set up got rained on.... and she said it was too dangerous for us to bike out to her house (which is kind of true, since she lives in the middle of a whole bunch of rice fields about 1 hour away from the city....).  But we are working on it!

On Wednesday we taught English.... we taught the kids about Families!  It kind of made us "trunky" but it was also nice to think about how the gospel has blessed my family.  I love my family! I drew a picture in crayon.  I would have taken a picture of it to show you all, but I'm a bit embarrassed.... I can't draw in crayons....

On Thursday... What happened.... I don't remember.... Uh.... Oh! We met with You JM who is an LA.  She knows she needs to change! She just has to exercise faith and act! I love her, she is so cute.  She just needs to go to church!

On Friday we did our weekly planning and I went on exchanges with Sister Adams for the third time on my mission.  I'm so lucky!  She is one of my favorite Sister Training Leaders ever and she is my role model.  I can't believe she is going home in a month!  It just makes me realize how short of time we really have on our missions.

On Saturday we met a cute girl. She had just had an accident on her bike, and so we helped her get cleaned up and stuff.  She is so cute! I hope she can come to English or Church.  She seemed really open to learning more, but didn't give us her info... sadness....  On Saturday was also the day we were going to go to Albee's, but the weather changed those plans in a jiffy.  I don't like rain... it makes this work so much harder! And wetter! Ah well, we must press forward.

Sunday was good.  Ke JM, our RC gave a talk in Sacrament and she did so well! Also Luo JM finally came to church.  She is also an RC, who was baptized right when I got here... but since then she's been too busy to meet or come to church.  She is busy working in a factory that was putting logos on sports things for the Soccer stuff going on in Brazil....  But, hopefully with the summer time coming in, she'll have more time to meet!  We need to go over enduring to the end with her....

And now, it's Monday again.  I'm still sooo tired!  But that's alright.  I've come to the realization that I'll always be tired here on my mission.  I'll probably have to sleep for three days straight when I go home... haha!  So today, our plans are to go shopping with the other sisters.  It should be way fun! I'll go and find clothes that are more suitable for this hot climate and that are cheap so I won't worry about getting them ruined in the rain... because I have a feeling it's going to be really wet this summer.... ugh.....  I've got to learn to love the rain again!

Anyways, I'm still really tired... haha! I keep saying that.  So for my spiritual thought, watch this video.  It's good.  It made me cry.  The Atonement of Jesus Christ is a real thing.  It can change anyone.  It gives us all a second chance.  It brings a light of hope into this world of constant hardships.  Come unto Christ and be changed by him.

I love you all so much! I pray for you and I am grateful for your support and love.  Until next time!

Love, Sister Nicholle Peng

6/2/14 It's a miracle!!! We have an investigator!!!

1)  Do you still have a headache?  If so, what are you going to do about it?
No headaches. :)

2)  How are you and Sister Pope getting along?  What do you like best about her?
She and I are getting along great.  She is very good at updating the area book, and reminding me of things I'd probably forget to do.  Oh, and she is a Doctor Who Fan. :D

3)  How do you enjoy being a senior companion?  Has it been harder or easier than you imagined?  Explain.
I don't know if I would say I enjoy being senior companion.  It's just more responsibility.  It's about the same as I imagined.... Explain?  Mom, I don't have that much time.  I'll probably just write that in my email.

4)  How is it being an English teacher leader?  Do you have many people coming to your English classes?  How many?
Haha! They made a mistake on move call,  they gave us two English leaders.  We only need one.  So I got off easy! :D So happy! I prayed about that!

5)  What kind of service projects do you do in Zhang Hua?
Uh...... none.... we teach English class.... that counts....

6)  Have you had Mau Wan yet?
Nope, sister Pope won't eat it.

7)  What are your plans for the day?
Relax.  I'm dead.  We were going to go to the dragon boat festival... but we didn't want to do the 2 hour bike ride just to go to a very crowded hot place....  if we did that, we would be dragging this week.

8)   What is your apartment in Zhang Hua like?  Does it have a comfortable bed?
It's okay.  My bed is hard, but that's okay.  I'm too exhausted to notice.

*****************************

Hello Mom, Regan, Family, Friends, and Dogs!  How are all of you doing this great summer day?  Me?  Well.... I am HOT... Today I woke up, and I was already tired and looking forward to sleeping again. Thank goodness for P-day!  Last week completely drained me of all energy.  I can honestly say that I gave the Lord all I had, because now I need to recharge.

So, it was my first week with Sister Pope and leading the area.  Zhang Hua is HUGE and it was taking all I could to make sure we made solid plans and followed through with those plans and make sure that we were taking care of everyone that needs to be taken care of.    It's not like I feel overly stressed out.  I just feel the burden of the responsibility of taking care of Zhang Hua for the Lord.  I think I've come to a new perspective of missionary work in this last week.  I've come to really know of the importance of what we are doing here.  The Lord has sent me to Zhang Hua to invite people to come unto him.  And if I don't talk to everyone.  If I don't share about the gospel, I'm depriving them of a chance they could have had to know Christ.  I've really come to love contacting everyone this last week, because it just felt natural.  I know I have the authority to be a representative of Christ.  I know that the gospel can and will change people's lives, if they are willing to try for themselves and learn.

And this week, a huge miracle happened.  We have an investigator!  One new investigator!  She is super cute and she is only 19.  We met her at a stop light on the way to a recent convert’s house.  It was a huge testimony of speaking to everyone.  She was parked about 4 feet behind me, and I decided to say hello.  She and I started talking, and I switched information with her since she said she had interest in English Class.  I left, because the light was green, and planned on inviting her to English but then while I was riding, I turn my head to see her riding alongside Sister Pope.  She then invites us to follow her to her house, which we do, and we share with her about prayer and invite her to set up with us on Friday.  She agrees, but then later in the week, she says that Friday wasn't good, but if she meets with us on Thursday, we can meet at the church with her.  And after sharing probably the most unprepared version of the Restoration lesson with her (the Joseph Smith DVD we wanted to use was gone, and we ran out of pamphlets...) she keeps telling us how she wants to go to church.  And she did come to church and she is still wanting to meet with us!

So, that's the biggest miracle.  We have an investigator. :)  Oh, we also had another investigator come to church, she was a former that we called and she said that we could try and find time to meet with her when she doesn't have work.  So cool!

What else.... Oh, we've just been biking and biking... I'll upload a picture of my watch tan line, to give you a sense of how hot and sunny it's been.  I feel bad for Sister Pope... she got a bad sun burn....

Oh! Talking about Sister Pope, she is a great companion.  She is so very good at making sure I remember to call people and buy important stuff and what not.  Also, she is so good at updating the area book, something I've yet to master.  And she has a great sense of humor.  She and I have spent a lot of time laughing with each other, which is good, otherwise I'd be going crazy with stress.  Oh! And guess what! I've learned that she is a BBC fan!  So good! She and I actually relate pretty well.  She's pretty different from my other companions, but different in a good way. :)

So, being senior companion just boggles my head.  There is soo many things that I have to keep track of.  I write everything down, but even that's not enough.... ah well.... I'm trying my hardest and that's all I can give.  I've been feeling exhausted, but in a good way.  I feel a sense of fulfillment.  It's a good feeling.  But I may have to go a bit easier next week.... otherwise I might run myself dry... Haha!

Hmm... What else am I forgetting... there is probably a lot... I wrote stuff down....  Oh! It didn't really rain all last week when we had to be outside.  The Lord has been answering my prayers!  He's been answering a lot lately.  Like, I had prayed that I wouldn't have to be English Leader, since I'm new to being Senior companion.  But, there it was... on the move call... a little dot next to my name... But what I didn't realize that there was a dot next to Elder Dayley's (SP?) name as well (he teaches in the same English unit).  The assistants made a mistake! I wasn't supposed to be English Leader! Hahaha! I got let off. :D  So happy!

Oh, and then we were running late to church.... So I prayed they wouldn't start till we got there, because we had investigators who were there that we wanted to find and sit with.  And, yay! They started a little late, just enough time for us to get the investigators to sit with us. :)

What else.... Umm.... Oh! Happy day!  Since being in Zhang Hua I've lost about 3.5 kgs! So happy!  Yay! It's probably because we've been biking a ton.

Anyways, as to things pertaining to a spiritual nature.... This week I kept thinking about Joseph Smith.  He was just a normal boy, who had a question.  And he went and asked the Lord, and the Lord answered- just as the Lord is willing to answer any question his children have for him.

The message us missionaries are sharing is one of hope.  It is one of Love.  We have a loving Heavenly Father who hasn't forgotten about us.  He has given us a way to receive his guidance in our daily lives.  We all have the right to receive revelation concerning our own lives.  He will guide us.  He loves us.  If you are lost, if you are in need of answers, if you just need someone to be there, turn to him who made you.  He knows you, and he would never lead you astray.  So pray.  Know for yourself.  And the Lord with show you wonders and lead you by the hand.

I love you all so much!  As it is the beginning of June, it means that I have a little over half a year left until we meet again.  In that time, I'm hoping to give my all, to become the person Christ would have me be.  I am thankful for your love, your prayers and your support.  You guys are awesome!

Love, Sister Nicholle Peng

5/26/14 New Move Call.....I am now a Senior Companion!!!

1). How was your temple trip???  Was it totally amazing?  Did you like the new video?  Does kit sound weird in Chinese?  Could you understand it? SO GOOD!!! I loved going to the temple!  I did endowments in English and sealings in Chinese.  For the sealings, I only understood the amen part.

2). What did do in Taipei after the temple trip, did you guys eat there?  I saw pictures of you guys on the bus.  Cool!  After the temple we went back home. Yup.  We ate on the bus.... it was just food we packed...

3). So, did you find out what going on with you in regards to transfers? I'm staying! I'm now senior companion!  Sister Pope is my new companion.

4). Did you ever get my photos?  I am wanting to send you another package with photos and such but I want to make sure that you are going to get them.
I got them! Yay! Thanks for the snacks too.  Though, the drink stuff kind of exploded.  No pictures were harmed though.

5). Have you eaten the Mua wan yet?
Nope

7). What are your plans for today?
Buy groceries... sleep...

8). So, did you like your picture in the pictures?  Do you like looking at the pictures?  I just thought I would upload a few at the time. It was funny seeing my picture.  The pictures are great!  I love the cake! :D

9). What was the best that happened to you this week?
Umm.... temple!

10). What can I do for you to make your day?  Besides praying for you???
That's about it.... there's not much you can do.

************************

Wow! Hello everyone!

Another week over.  The month of May is closing.  A new move call is beginning.  And a year has almost come and gone since I was last home.  How crazy the time flies!

So first I must apologize for the quality of this email.  I've been having headaches lately... and I'm trying not to down all of my Excedrin in one go.  I've been drinking a ton of water.... so I don't know what's up.... maybe it's just too hot....

Oh! So big things first!  Move call! Sister Fuller left me for the south.  And now I'm a senior companion! I'm leading the area!  I feel like I'm going to have to jia you.... this area is huge and I still feel like I'm new to it.  I really hope I actually know what I'm doing otherwise we may go crazy...  Oh, I'm also English Class Leader.... yup... Hopefully I don't stress myself out... probably will... but... ah well, I just want to make the Lord happy with the work going on here in Zhang Hua.

So, anyways, my new companion is...... Sister Pope!  She is from Missouri! So far away!  And she is a year older than me.  I've just met her, but she seems stellar!  I'm so excited for this next move call with her.  I'm sure we are going to learn a ton.  Just pray for us so we can actually find some investigators to work with.

Hmm... What else happened... oh! Monday wasn't P-Day, which was weird.  We worked instead, since we went to the temple on Wednesday and that counted as our p-day.  So, after meeting with an LA, emailing and trying to find investigators, we came home EXHAUSTED and out of food.... yup....  We had barely any food in our apartment this week... since we didn't really have a p-day and it was the last week of the move call.  But, today we'll buy food, so, that's all good.

Going to the temple was so amazing! It really gave me the spiritual boost that I needed.  I've been feeling drained lately, since we are going on a long drought of no investigators or other people who are willing to meet with us.... but it's going to change!  When we went to the temple, it was all rainy though, so I didn't really get any good pictures.

Oh! We also had a few miracles! Like, lack of rain! Yay!  Oh and we got two referrals this week! Granted... they are both not for our area... so.... ah well... they can still learn the gospel.  And after tracting into a lady on Friday, she called me this morning wanted to set up! She wants to learn English, but we told her we also had to share the gospel with her.  So hopefully she starts loving the gospel!

We are still riding our bikes a lot.... yup... I'm thinking of getting a good bike when I go home and biking to everything... haha! What am I going to do when I don't have to bike every day?  I'm not going to be used to it!  So weird!

Anyways, I know this post is short, but I'm going to cut to the spiritual thought.  I read a great article by Pres. Uchtdorf called the Continuing in Patience from a General Conference.  It was talking about how patience is a process in which we have to go through to be perfected.  And how patience wasn't just a passive thing.  It requires diligence and persistence with faith in God and Christ like love.  I feel like the Lord is telling me to be patient... so hopefully through patience, we'll see miracles!

Well, that's all folks.... tune into next week's episode of "Biking in Zhang Hua". Haha! But in the meantime: "Just keep biking, just keep biking...."

Love,
Sister Nicholle Peng
